In other words, I don't think we can necessarily conclude Steven is a Zionist, but I do think we can conclude he made an unbelievably tone-deaf post and if people consider him a Zionist on that basis, he has only himself to blame for not clarifying. Slightly under four minutes, Lazarus is one of Porcupine Tree's most beautiful songs. The radio edit is no different from the album version, minus the ambient noise that closes the song. So my rough interpretation of it is: It was an incredibly, horribly poorly timed response to the local event and general rise in anti-semitic hate crimes that failed to account for the international circumstances and somehow managed to fuck up its optics even more by using a phrase with politically-loaded implications (at least in the US) in a totally inappropriate context. Most Porcupine Tree fans have been raving about Lazarus which appears as track three on Deadwing. I believe it was posted the same day/week as a publicized anti-semitic event in the UK, but also around the same time as the Israel/Palestine situation was flaring up. ![]() Which he never, ever clarified on and thus opened himself up to very justified, very uncharitable interpretations. Of course, it was a very, very bad social media post that read simply: "All lives matter #antisemitismracism." ![]() ![]() The speculation on that point stems entirely from one social media post, I believe.
